Connect AI agents, live maps, and mission workflows
Bring location data, cited knowledge, and controlled actions into one experience. GeoPAL connects AI agents with interactive maps and operational workflows so teams can analyze a place, ask questions, and prepare useful work products.
GeoPAL is NexGen's reusable Geospatial AI Accelerator for connecting AI agents to maps, authoritative data, mission knowledge, and operational workflows. Map context flows to the agent, and validated agent actions flow back to the application. Users can draw an area or route, analyze live geospatial data, ask questions, and generate work products in the same experience.
NexGen brings a reusable core of integration, spatial analysis, grounded knowledge, workflow, and evaluation patterns, then configures it around each customer's data, systems, rules, and mission. The current public-lands reference implementation demonstrates that approach.
01 Draw and analyze
Select an area or route. Bring authoritative layers, acreage, land status, and mission rules into one spatial analysis.
02 Ask and act
-
Ask questions with map context. Review cited guidance and use validated agent actions to navigate, highlight, and explore results.
03 Review and use
-
Prepare reports, pre-checks, and draft work products. Staff validate the evidence and outputs before operational or regulatory use.
Explore the GeoPAL accelerator
From spatial context and cited answers to controlled actions and draft work products, the sections below explain the current capabilities, architecture, and public-lands reference implementation.
Two-way agent and map interaction
-
Draw an area or route so GeoPAL can analyze live geospatial data and automatically provide the agent with relevant map context. Ask the agent to navigate the map, manage layers, highlight features, analyze conditions, or generate a work product.
-
A versioned agent-to-map event contract carries typed, validated actions back to the application. The map, spatial analysis, and agent share one integrated application state.
Analyze authoritative geospatial data
-
Analyze polygons and routes across authoritative layers and mission rules. The public-lands reference implementation includes acreage, land status, Public Land Survey System (PLSS) legal descriptions, stipulations, setbacks, split-estate information, and environmental-review signals.
-
The current public-lands reference implementation analyzes 8+ authoritative layers to support location-aware decisions. Staff review the spatial evidence and draft outputs before using them in mission workflows.
Generate work products and connected actions
-
Turn spatial context into reports, forms, pre-checks, quality checks, assessments, and downstream actions, with provenance back to source data.
-
The current public-lands reference implementation can generate an Application for Permit to Drill (APD) pre-check and a Form 3160-3 / Surface Use Plan of Operations (SUPO) draft. Staff validate the sources and draft outputs before operational or regulatory use.
Ground answers in cited knowledge
-
GeoPAL separates live geospatial facts from policy knowledge. Geospatial facts come from tools; policy answers come from curated, cited mission knowledge.
-
Vector knowledge with citations and cite-or-abstain rules help reduce unsupported responses. Users can review cited answers alongside the spatial evidence.
Connect with your GIS and business systems
-
The current map viewer supports Esri ArcGIS Maps SDK and open-source Leaflet through a runtime toggle. Both use the same drawing tools, spatial analysis, agent workflow, and automated tests; ArcGIS adds 3D terrain support.
-
Microsoft Copilot Studio provides the current agent layer. REST APIs and Power Automate flows connect approved tools and systems today. MCP connectors and agent-to-agent delegation remain extension patterns for evaluation when a customer's architecture calls for them.
Build with controlled actions and evaluation
-
The reference implementation uses Microsoft Entra single sign-on, least-privilege tools, typed and validated agent actions, and a versioned agent-to-map event contract.
-
Its engineering foundation includes golden-prompt evaluation, 120+ tests, 12 end-to-end suites, Content Security Policy (CSP) checks, and gated deployment. The ArcGIS and Leaflet map engines use the same automated tests. NexGen configures integrations and operating controls around each customer's environment and mission.
Configure the accelerator around your mission
-
Apply the location-aware integration pattern to permitting, environmental review, field operations, emergency response, infrastructure planning, inspections, compliance support, asset management, and natural-resource decision support.
-
NexGen assesses the mission use case, configures data and knowledge, integrates approved systems, and hardens the solution for operational use. The reusable foundation lets customer teams focus on mission-specific configuration, validation, and operationalization.
Public-lands reference implementation
-
In the current public-lands reference implementation, a user can draw a project area or route, analyze 8+ authoritative layers, receive cited regulatory guidance, and generate an Application for Permit to Drill pre-check and Form 3160-3/SUPO draft. The example demonstrates the accelerator pattern. Staff validate the data and draft outputs; agency officials retain responsibility for regulatory determinations and permitting decisions.
Architecture designed for choice
-
GeoPAL keeps the agent and map engines behind defined integration boundaries. NexGen's reusable core connects the versioned agent-to-map contract, authoritative layers, spatial analysis, agent instructions and guardrails, cited knowledge, tools, and an evaluation harness.
-
Customer requirements can guide future agent-platform choices, including Azure AI Foundry, Anthropic Claude, OpenAI, or Amazon Bedrock. Those are integration options to assess; the current reference implementation uses Microsoft Copilot Studio.
Analyze polygons and routes
-
Draw a project area or route to analyze location-specific conditions against authoritative geospatial layers and mission rules. GeoPAL brings the spatial context and analysis into the connected agent experience.
-
The public-lands reference implementation illustrates acreage, land status, legal descriptions, stipulations, setbacks, split-estate information, and environmental-review signals. NexGen configures the authoritative data, rules, and integrations around the customer's mission.
Connect the systems you already own
-
Connect enterprise GIS, authoritative data, mission knowledge, identity, APIs, and systems of record within one controlled workflow. API-enabled ticketing, enterprise resource planning (ERP), computerized maintenance management (CMMS), records, and mission systems are potential integration targets.
-
NexGen scopes the approved tools, permissions, and read or write actions around customer requirements. The reusable integration pattern lets teams focus on mission-specific configuration and validation while retaining existing platforms.
