Software Supply Chain Risk Intelligence

Understand software dependencies. Focus the next action.

Bring vulnerability findings, package health, and AI-assisted recommendations together to help your teams prioritize remediation and plan modernization.

Applications depend on software components that change over time. Vulnerabilities, outdated versions, and maintenance concerns can be difficult to assess across repositories. NexGen's Software Supply Chain Risk Intelligence capability, delivered through S-BOM Manager, brings dependency inventories, vulnerability findings, package-health information, and AI-assisted recommendations into one view.

Security, development, and program teams can examine which dependencies need attention, understand the reasons behind a finding, and coordinate the next steps.

01  Connect and organize

  • Select GitHub repositories, tag owners and teams, and retrieve application dependency inventories.

02  Analyze and prioritize

  • Assess vulnerabilities, versions, and package health with AI-assisted recommendations and plain-language explanations.

03  Review and act

  • Validate recommendations and use reports to plan remediation, coordinate responsibilities, and discuss progress.

Bring dependency visibility, remediation priorities, reporting, and responsible adoption into one view. Explore the current capabilities and the review and data-handling boundaries below.

Focus remediation effort

  • View dependency status, vulnerability trends, and relative risk rankings in one dashboard. Use the overview to focus attention on repositories with the greatest identified risk.

  • View known vulnerabilities alongside version and maintenance information. Trace indirect dependencies to the root packages that introduce them, helping teams identify changes that may address several issues together.

Anticipate maintenance concerns

  • Review outdated, deprecated, archived, and unmaintained components alongside known vulnerabilities. Package-health findings help teams identify dependencies that may require replacement and plan modernization before maintenance concerns become larger operational problems.

Coordinate ownership and follow-up

  • Organize repositories by owner and team. Review summaries and repository-level findings together to clarify responsibility, coordinate follow-up, and focus remediation resources through your existing processes.

AI guidance with safeguards

  • S-BOM Manager provides suggested actions with explanations: update, replace, address urgently, evaluate further, or no action suggested. Recommendations and explanations remain visible alongside the original findings. An "OK" verdict cannot dismiss a known vulnerability: it becomes "evaluate," is flagged for manual confirmation, and still contributes to risk.
Recommendations apply to the exact package version and are reevaluated when known vulnerabilities change. "OK" does not close or delete a finding; for packages without known vulnerabilities, it can lower priority and remove the package from the Action Plan. Human review of every verdict, including "OK," is recommended.

Track change across scans

  • Compare the two latest scans to see new or resolved vulnerabilities and added, removed, or upgraded packages. Retained scan history provides additional context for assessing changes in dependency health.
Scan-comparison and history views remain within the tool and are not included in HTML or Excel exports.

Share findings through reports

  • Review scan summaries and owner and team reports, with repository-level details to support priorities and follow-up.
HTML reports summarize selected repositories or owner and team groups with expandable supporting detail and can be printed to PDF. Excel exports organize remediation plans and dependency details into a separate worksheet for each repository. Scan comparisons and history are not included in exports.

Package insights with clear coverage

  • Vulnerability and package-health findings are combined with adoption data where available. Download data is available for npm, NuGet, Packagist, RubyGems, and Elixir. Registry-check status is recorded for each package; missing information is not evidence that a component is healthy.

Local AI with clear data boundaries

  • By default, AI analysis runs on the same workstation; source code, database contents, and AI output are not sent out. Scans contact GitHub, OSV, public registries, and Google deps.dev, transmitting package names, versions, and ecosystem identifiers as needed.
A remotely hosted AI model requires a separate data-handling review. Cloud or container deployment with a hosted model requires adaptation.

Human review and current limitations

  • Human review of all recommendations is recommended. The current tool does not enforce reviews or approvals, support analyst overrides, or provide a full review audit trail beyond verdicts retained in scan snapshots. Formal false-negative testing has not yet been performed.

Interpret status and relative risk

  • S-BOM Manager combines vulnerability severity, maintenance status, and version currency to explain which components need attention and why. Risk scores support comparisons and trends, not absolute risk ratings; AI verdicts do not change the score.
Use the findings and explanations to discuss priorities and plan further evaluation. Demonstration counts illustrate the tool and are not customer outcomes.

Scope a demonstration around your environment

  • The current implementation retrieves dependency inventories only from GitHub's dependency-graph API. Manual SBOM uploads, GitLab, and Bitbucket are not currently supported. NexGen will review repository access, package coverage, deployment, and data handling when scoping a demonstration or pilot.
Discuss how the capability could support your applications, mission workflows, data, systems, and use cases. Any adaptation or hardening is planned around the agreed scope.

Work with NexGen

  • Discuss: Review your repositories, existing tools, and decisions.
Scope: Define coverage, access, deployment, and data handling.
Evaluate: Agree on analyst review and pilot measures.
Plan: Determine next steps and any adaptation or hardening.
